In 2007, there were 1.151 million main line telephones in use throughout the country. In the same year, there were 6.068 million mobile cellular phones in use. There are three government boards appointed by a majority vote of Parliament to supervise radio and television broadcasting: The Slovak Television Council and the Slovak Radio Council establish broadcasting policy for state-owned television and radio. The Slovak Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting issues broadcast licences for non-government groups and administers advertising laws and other regulations. In 2008, there were 1 AM, 1 shortwave and 22 FM radio stations, and 37 television stations. In 2000, there were about 965 radios and 407 television sets for every 1,000 people.

Slovakia currently has a large number of full-area ISP's that offer wired broadband internet connections. They are: Slovak Telekom (known under the business brand T-Com) this is the major telecommunication company. Also available is T-mobile, Orange Slovensko, Chello, Wimax and others. They offer a range of connections, from ADSL / ADSL2+ to "Fibernet". ADSL or ADSL2+ is available in almost every town in Slovakia.

general assessment: Slovakia has a modern telecommunications system that has expanded dramatically in recent years with the growth in cellular services
domestic: analog system is now receiving digital equipment and is being enlarged with fibre-optic cable, especially in the larger cities; 3 companies provide nationwide cellular services
international: country code - 421; 3 international exchanges (1 in Bratislava and 2 in Banska Bystrica) are available; Slovakia is participating in several international telecommunications projects that will increase the availability of external services
